Article 6: International Collaboration and Local Engagement Are Essential for the Beverage Carton Industry (Video)

Climate change, circularity, and food safety are global priorities that also present significant challenges for the beverage carton industry. How can our sector continue to innovate while reducing its environmental footprint?

We spoke with Annick Carpentier, former Executive Director Global Advocacy at the Food and Beverage Carton Alliance (FBCA). In a new video, she explains how international collaboration and local engagement go hand in hand in building a circular future for beverage cartons.

In Belgium, ACE Belgium works closely with FBCA to support members such as Elopak, SIG, and Tetra Pak in implementing sustainable innovations and shaping policy.

“The future of our industry depends on collaboration at every level,” says Carpentier. “The challenges we face today do not stop at Europe’s borders. That is why we want to build on the knowledge and experience gained in Europe and apply it internationally as well.”

Beverage cartons occupy a unique position within the packaging sector. They combine a low environmental impact with an important role in food safety. Moreover, they are not only recyclable but are already being recycled on a large scale today, with the recovered materials reused as raw materials for new products.

In Belgium, ACE Belgium acts as the national representative of the sector and works closely with FBCA. Through this partnership, members such as Elopak, SIG, and Tetra Pak benefit not only from support in developing sustainable innovations but also from a strong voice in policymaking at both the local and European levels.

“As an industry, we take our responsibility seriously. Together, we are ensuring that beverage cartons remain a circular and climate-friendly packaging solution in the future,” Carpentier concludes.
