Article 9: FBCA Welcomes New Director General

The Food and Beverage Carton Alliance (FBCA) has appointed Sebastian Bartels as its new Director General. A recognised expert in sustainability and public policy, Bartels brings more than twenty years of international experience across industries including manufacturing, logistics, FMCG, and energy.

With this appointment, FBCA—formed through the merger of ACE and EXTR:ACT—enters a new phase of growth. The alliance is expanding its role as a global advocate for circular, fibre-based food and beverage packaging solutions.

“His broad experience and deep sustainability expertise make him the ideal person to deliver on our international ambitions,” said Patrick Verhelst, Chairman of FBCA. “He will strengthen our impact, from local engagement to global policy dialogue.”

Before joining FBCA, Bartels led the international Sustainability Services portfolio at DEKRA and previously held responsibility for quality and safety at Deutsche Bahn. He also spent six years in local politics and has served in various positions within international industry associations.

“FBCA plays a key role in the transition towards safe, low-carbon, and circular food systems,” said Bartels. “I look forward to working with our members to accelerate innovation and create meaningful impact.”

With Bartels at the helm, FBCA remains fully committed to its mission of promoting sustainable packaging solutions in Europe and beyond.
