Article 8: FBCA Explains Beverage Carton Recycling Through an Original Video
18 March marked Global Recycling Day, an initiative of the Global Recycling Foundation that highlights the importance of recycling in preserving natural resources. Beverage cartons are fully recyclable, making them an excellent example of circular packaging.
In Belgium, beverage cartons are collected through the Blue PMD Bag system. They are then processed at specialised recycling facilities in neighbouring countries, where they are transformed into new products such as paper, cardboard, and plastic applications. By recycling beverage cartons, valuable materials are kept in circulation and given a second life. This perfectly aligns with the principles of a circular economy, in which waste is minimised and resources are used as efficiently as possible.
To explain this process in an accessible and engaging way, FBCA created an original and creative video. The video demonstrates how beverage cartons are separated into their different material components in paper mills, allowing each material stream to be recovered and reused.
